Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet neighborhood in The West Island of Montreal is one of those "sleepy" area. It is a part of the island that has been called "the West Island." West Island has a lot of different communities. People who have never heard of it often think it is a separate, west-facing island. It is often cited as the birthplace of Amanda Brugel but while that is the case, her time there was not long. Brugel was raised in Courtice outside Oshawa Ontario. She initially wanted to pursue a career as an actress However, following a dramatic increase in size, her friends weren't able to dance with her. In an interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inches." After I became too big for my male friends, I quit. Many former dancers turn to acting and in Brugel's case it was the nudge of an instructor in drama at high school that pushed her in the right direction. She was recommended by a teacher to get a role for school's annual production. She was chosen to play the lead part in Anne of Green Gables after she auditioned for. A Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she was a theatre student and earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts in the year 2000. Since then, Brugel has been involved in more than 60 shows, smaller and large. One of the most memorable was when she landed the role of Rita on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actor for the season 1 of the series and only seen occasionally.
